Commercial banks in industrial areas around garment factories will remain open on May 22 (Friday) and May 23 (Saturday) to facilitate the payment of salaries and bonuses of workers on the occasion of holy Eid-ul Fitr.
Banks remain open from 10am to 1pm on Friday and from 10am to 3:30pm on Saturday, as per the central bank notice issued on Tuesday.
The central bank took the decision to provide cash through purchasing export bills with other activities in the interest of keeping the export trade active.
The bank branches in garments industrial area like Dhaka Metropolitan, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chittagong areas should be kept open to ensure adequate security, as per BB notice.
Now, banks remain open from 10am to 3:30pm while transaction can be made between 10am and 2:30pm during general holidays announce by the government following the coronavirus pandemic.
BB directed banks to maintain the safety and hygiene-related guidelines as per the World Health Organization during office hours to avoid the spread of coronavirus.
