Standard Chartered Bangladesh (SCB) has dedicated Tk13.5 crore ($1.6 million) to forming a strategic action plan that seeks healthcare, financial aid, and long-term growth for the people of Bangladesh, in response to the consequences of Covid-19.

The measures of the 2021-plan will include: immediate action on food-relief distribution within Covid-19 impacted communities, as well as health support in the form of oxygen concentrators for infected patients, medical equipment for healthcare facilities and frontline health workers, and medical treatment support for critically impacted patients, according to a press release.

Moreover, livelihoods will be regenerated through the provision of gainful employment opportunities and entrepreneurship support programs.

Finally, a long-term growth scheme will be catalyzed through an education support program.

Naser Ezaz Bijoy, CEO of Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said: "The plan builds on our extensive initiatives from 2020, but is more diverse in scope, which we believe will be more impactful. While the response package is large, the need of the hour for the country is significantly more -- in sharing this we hope others will leverage this framework and some of the tested initiatives so that together we can achieve the large-scale impact that is a necessity at this juncture.”

During a prolonged pandemic of challenges, Standard Chartered Bank has made multiple fruitful contributions to protect the diverse communities of Bangladesh.

As a result of their dedication,   the bank secured 25 major international awards in 2020, and was recognized as the international bank with the highest CSR spend in 2020 by Bangladesh Bank.
