NRBs will now be able to access banking services at their fingertips through HSBC Select proposition

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) in Bangladesh and Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers Association (BMMOA) signed an MoU to facilitate BMMOA members with privileges on HSBC products and services.

HSBC’s Non Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) proposition will support BMMOA members and NRBs with services and products that support their special circumstances of being away from Bangladesh, said a press release.

NRBs will now be able to access banking services at their fingertips for meeting their daily banking requirements through the HSBC Select proposition. They will be able to open accounts and service bonds remotely.

In addition, NRBs will also be able to avail HSBC’s overseas education facilities for their children studying abroad.

Captain Mohammed Anam Chowdhury, president of BMMOA mentioned, “I am elated that a multinational bank like HSBC has stepped up and joined hands with BMMOA to support the ten thousand plus family that we have. Mariners, who mobilise more than 90% of global trade, spend a significant period of time away from shores and this gives them very little time to attend to their personal financial needs. With HSBC’s support I can now confidently say our members and their family members will be benefitted.”

Md Mahbub ur Rahman, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh, said, “The strength of our global network provides world class NRB services and enables faster and smoother flow of remittances from abroad, one of the key contributors to the country's economy. We are delighted to provide Mariners with our NRB services, thanks to their partnership over the past 25 years, since the time HSBC started its operations in Bangladesh.”

Ahmed Saiful Islam, head of wealth and personal banking, HSBC Bangladesh, stated, “At HSBC we recognise that banking in Bangladesh from an overseas location and while on the sea can be an overwhelming process, however we also know how important it is to manage and have control of personal finances for the mariners while they are away. That is the very reason we have elevated our NRB banking services for BMMOA members and NRBs.”

“Our proposition reflects the evolving needs of our customers, who are looking for greater control and flexibility to manage their finances at home, as well as greater peace of mind. As customer needs change, HSBC is committed to blending the best products, services and technology with the power of our people to provide simple, helpful banking,” he added.
