JS watchdog wants BB heist report released

Update : 11 Aug 2016, 06:22 PM
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Finance has expressed dissatisfaction over the ministry's decision not to release the probe report on Bangladesh Bank heist to public. The committee has called for the report to be published immediately. Following a meeting on Thursday, standing committee Chairman Abdur Razzak told the Dhaka Tribune that Bangladesh’s global image was more important than the stolen $81 million. “The probe report should be published. People should know the names of the masterminds behind this heist and they should be brought to book,” he said. Former Bangladesh Bank governor Farashuddin submitted the probe report on the hacking and robbery of $81 million from the central bank’s foreign currency reserve account with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in February to the Ministry of Finance on May 30. Razzak said: “Why are they keeping the probe report to themselves? We asked them to submit it before the committee.” The former food minister also urged to expedite the process to bring back the stolen money and said the committee had recommended to send a team of lawmakers to the Philippines. “A new government has assumed office in the Philippines; the senate committee is also new. The process to bring back the money in underway. The Federal Reserve Bank is also cooperating. We are thinking of contacting Philippine political leaders.”
