Bangladesh has and Poland have agreed to set up a joint working group find out areas of bilateral cooperation in the blue economy.
The agreement was reached between Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam.
Polish Deputy Minister for Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation Grzegorz Witkowski at the latter's office on April 22, according to a press release received from the Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
During the meeting, Grzegorz Witkowski expressed keen interest for entering into bilateral cooperation in areas of seaports sharing, shipbuilding, marine science and fish processing.
The Polish side also showed interest to sign an MoU with Bangladesh for cooperation among the seaports of the two countries.
Shahriar Alam proposed to form a joint working group to identify all possible areas of cooperation in the promising blue economy so that both sides may consider entering into an MoU on Framework Cooperation in the sector in future.
The Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs also called on Polish Minister for Family, Labour and Social Welfare Elzbieta Rafalska at her office on the same day.
The Polish minister mentioned that the Polish economy is facing the problems of ageing population as well as emigration of skilled Polish workers to Germany, UK and other developed economies of EU or beyond.
She added that with the continued rise in the living standards, Poland would gradually become an attractive destination for immigrants, particularly those coming from non-EU countries.
Shahriar Alam appreciated the Polish government’s move to open up doors for migrant workers and offered to send skilled Bangladeshi workforce to fill up the existing skills gap in Poland.
The State Minister also proposed to establish a joint study group to explore mutually beneficial cooperation in orderly migration of skilled workers.
