The total number of electronic Taxpayer Identification Number (e-TIN) holders in Bangladesh have exceeded 2.9 million today, according to the latest data of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
More than 1.7 million Bangladeshis have registered to get their e-TINs during the 11 months of the current fiscal year.
The national treasury had initially targeted to take the total number of e-TIN holders to 2.5 million during this fiscal year. However, the turnout exceeded their expectations.
They now hope that the number of e-TIN holders will reach 3 million by the end of the current fiscal year.
The NBR launched a portal in 2013 to help taxpayers obtain their TIN online. The portal is linked to the National Identity Card database for verifying the authenticity of each applicant.
