Dipu Moni added that no decision on the GPA to CGPA shift has been made

Education Minister Dipu Moni has said the country’s education sector received its highest allocation in the proposed national budget for FY2019-20.

“We have received a higher allocation in the budget. The allocation reflects what we had asked from the government for the next fiscal year. This is the highest allocation for the sector till now,” the minister said while speaking to journalists at Chandpur Circuit House on Friday.

Saying that implementation is more important than allocation, she also pressed her hopes that the ministry will be able to fulfill its desired target with the new allocation.

“Every country prioritizes the education sector. Many countries have allocated 15% to 20% of their national budget for the sector. In Bangladesh, we have allotted 17%,” she added.

On the government’s plan to introduce a CGPA 4 system instead of the existing GPA 5 system for public examinations, Dipu Moni said higher education–both home and abroad—is measured in the CGPA 4 system and therefore the conversion will bring equivalency among the grades.

“Discussions are going on and we are yet to take a decision in this regard.”

Chandpur Deputy Commissioner Mazedur Rahman Khan, Police Super (SP) Jihadul Kabir, District Awami League President Nasir Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary Abu Naim Patwary Dulal, among others, were present at the event.
