Budget FY22: More allocation for technical and madrasa education

The government plans to infuse more money for technical and madrasa education in the coming fiscal year with an aim of creating more skill-based human resources and also to make the madrasa education up-to-date.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday proposed an allocation of Tk9,154 crore for technical, vocational and madrasa education in the 2021-22 fiscal year. It was Tk8,345 crore in the outgoing fiscal year.

“To increase the quality of madrasa education, the Development of Scheduled Madrasa project is going to be initiated. New buildings for 1,800 madrasas to be constructed and multimedia rooms for existing 653 madrasas will be set up under this project,” he said in his budget speech.

Additionally, another project Training of Madrasa Teachers to Enhance Teaching Skills has been undertaken to develop and modernize the madrasa education system.

To remove inequality in technical and vocational education, the government will provide stipends and free textbooks to the poor and meritorious students as well as teachers, the minister said.

Furthermore, he said the government would start establishing technical school and college (TSCs) in 100 upazilas; women's polytechnic institutes in Sylhet, Barisal, Mymensingh and Rangpur; polytechnic institutes in 23 districts; and engineering colleges in Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, and Rangpur in the next fiscal year, and the project would continue into the following fiscal year.
