Manufacturing industry leads job market
The fastest growing online career portal in Bangladesh, everjobs.com.bd, recently released its annual Career Report, which reveals that the "Manufacturing industry" is leading the job market in Bangladesh with the highest number of online vacancies and applications. A study of Everjobs Bangladesh presented an in-depth analysis of online employment trends in Bangladesh during the second quarter of 2017. The study gathered data by monitoring traffic on the website and found manufacturing to be the leading industry, offering the most career opportunities. According to the report, the majority of job seekers in Bangladesh search for manufacturing jobs when looking for new work opportunities online. The other most searched for jobs are in the IT industry, in NGOs, and the education and training sectors. Q2-2017-Infographic-(1)_Edited During the second quarter of 2017, a total of 971 manufacturing jobs were posted on the Everjobs website with 25,509 applications being submitted for these positions. Aside from this popularity, the industry has also been dominant as one of the main contributors to the nation's GDP since the 1970s. The Career Report also found that the "Clothing and Textile industry" had 986 open positions in this time period and received around 19,000 applications. “It is really interesting to see how other industries, such as information technology and real estate, are emerging aside from manufacturing, which is historically the main sector of this country, making the Bangladesh economy more diversified and complex every day. Our goal is to help people acknowledge these changes so they can profit from such great opportunities,” said Floris Bos, managing director and country manager of Everjobs Bangladesh. When it comes to location, the Dhaka division offers the most vacancies in Bangladesh, followed by Gazipur, Chittagong, Narayanganj and Rajshahi. However, regardless of location, the applicant’s gender gap remains one of the largest in the region, with 85% of applicants being male versus 15% being female.
