Uwais will also be a stunt and martial arts coordinator for the show
Iko Uwais, star of the 2011 martial arts action-adventure The Raid, is coming to Netflix with a new series called Wu Assassins, a crime drama set in San Francisco.
According to a report by Polygon, Uwais will star as Kai Jin, by day an aspiring chef, and in his dual life he is a Wu Assassin tasked with confronting the powerful members of an ancient triad and bringing them to justice in order to “restore balance once more.”
Indonesian action star Uwais is best known as a martial arts actor, stuntman and a fight choreographer, with a credit history that includes Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of Wu Assassins. In addition to starring, Uwais is also a producer and a stunt and martial arts coordinator on the show.
The Raid, and its 2014 sequel, The Raid Redemption, made Uwais the best Asian martial artis/actor since Tony Jaa. The first film took a number of honours and nominations from several international film festivals.
Stephen Fung will direct the first two episodes of Wu Assassins; the directors of the other eight episodes will be named later. Netflix did not give a premiere date for the series.
