Film-maker Josim Uddin Ahmed is due to release his third short film, titled “Chocolate,” by the Shorts International Ltd.
His first and second short films, “Daag” and “A Pair of Sandal,” were also released by the Shorts International, a UK-based company that is a leading short film entertainment company in the world.
“Chocolate” is the first part of a series of eight films that are a part of Bangladeshi film-makers’ protest, titled “I stand for women.”
Most of the remaining seven films are in post-production, and all eight are due to have a collective premiere in September.
“Chocolate” will specifically highlight the psychological trauma faced by a girl child, who is sexually abused by a family member.
Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune Showtime, Josim said due to the sensitive nature of the plot, he had to be very cautious during filming.
Regarding the film’s distribution by Shorts International, Josim said: “I am very happy that this short film, which is my third one, is available on an international platform. This experience will help me a great deal when I make a feature-length film.
“In Bangladesh, there is no market for short films. It is often a cause for frustration among us film-makers when we are unable to sell our short films. That is why I hope ‘Chocolate’ will be an inspiration to my fellow film-makers.”
‘Chocolate’ will be released on September 10 and will also be screened on Shorts TV and other online video-on-demand platforms.
