A two-day long Nazrul Sangeet workshop was held at Barisal on Friday and Saturday. The program was organized by Bangladesh Nazrul Sangeet Sangstha (BNSS) and supported by Nazrul Sangskritik Jote, Barisal (NSJB) to spread original compositions and propagate the thematic aspects of Nazrul songs.
Fifty Nazrul Sangeet singers from different parts of the city participated in the workshop held at City College and Charukala Barisal.
In closing ceremony of the programme, held in Ashwini Kumar Hall of the city on Saturday night, was presided over by vice president of NSJB Papiya Jesmin.
Deputy Commissioner of Barisal Habibur Rahman was chief guest, while eminent Nazrul Sangeet singer and organizing secretary of BNSS Mahamudul Hasan, and poet and literary personality Principal Tpankar Chakraborty, were special guests of the closing ceremony.
Among others, director of the workshop Tanvir Hasan, cultural activists Shuvangkar Chakraborty and Basudev Ghosh, NSJB secretary Gopal Krishna Guha Ripon, organizer of Charukala Sushanta Ghosh, gave speeches at the closing ceremony of the programme.

They discussants also said songs of Nazrul inspired people during liberation war and after independence, to build the nation as a secular country, and to form societies based on equity, love and justice.
Finally the discussants mentioned that Nazrul Sangeet or Geeti incorporate revolutionary notions as well as spiritual, philosophical and romantic themes. Thus Nazrul used his music as a major way of disseminating his revolutionary notions, mainly by the use of strong words and powerful, but catchy tunes.
A cultural function based on Nazrul Geeti was performed by the participants of the workshop after the discussion session.
