Global Youth Film Festival begins in Rangpur

The inauguration ceremony was attended by acclaimed film director and chairman of the international competition at the festival, Golam Rabbany Biplob, film-maker and architect, Enamul Karim Nirjhar, the chief advisor to Cinema Bangladesh in Rangpur, Dr Rezaul Haq, film-maker and chairman of best Bangla film for “Hiralal Sen Awards,” Fakhrul Arefin Khan, and International Federation of Film Critics member and a judge at the festival, Sadia Khalid

Global Youth Film Festival, organized by Cinema Bangladesh, began in Rangpur on Thursday with the slogan “Let’s Cinema!” The festival was inaugurated by Bangla Academy Literary Award-winning writer Manju Sarkar, and the chief guest for the event was Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur, Enamul Habib. 

The inauguration ceremony was attended by acclaimed film director and chairman of the international competition at the festival, Golam Rabbany Biplob, film-maker and architect, Enamul Karim Nirjhar, the chief advisor to Cinema Bangladesh in Rangpur, Dr Rezaul Haq, film-maker and chairman of best Bangla film for “Hiralal Sen Awards,” Fakhrul Arefin Khan, and International Federation of Film Critics member and a judge at the festival, Sadia Khalid. 

The producer of the festival, Hemant Sadik, made the opening remarks at the inauguration ceremony, which also had a panel discussion moderated by the convener of the local chapter of Cinema Bangladesh, Dr Syed Mamun. 

The organizers said that tomorrow, on September 28, there will also be a film-making workshop alongside the previously announced film screenings. Popular directors will discuss the making and promotion of films in the workshop. 

Three international film-makers and 16 young directors of Bangladesh have already arrived at the festival. Out of 1270 films from 101 countries, 67 will be screened at this festival. 

The festival will continue till September 29. Every day at 10am, 2pm and 5pm, movies will be screened at Rangpur’s Town Hall.
