UCEP Bangladesh launches QUEST

UCEP Bangladesh has initiated the implementation of 'Quality Education and Skills for Transformation’ (QUEST) program to provide good technical education to the general disadvantaged youth by providing quality technical education to the students who drop out of school. Australian High Commission's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will assist UECP Bangladesh with this project.

 The Quest project was inaugurated at the UCEP Bangladesh’s auditorium in Mirpur on Sunday, April 28. Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh -- Miss Julia Dijlet attended the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest. Among others, Fahmida Shabnam, Team Leader (Human Development Team) of DFID, Parveen Mahmud FCA, Chairperson of UCEP Bangladesh, and  Tahsinah Ahmed Executive Director of UESP Bangladesh spoke on the occasion.

Julia Dijlet said that many students in Bangladesh fall apart from school every year, which has a negative impact on economic and social conditions of the country. And just one-third of these students attain technical training. However, the issue of technical education must be addressed in the current social and economic context of Bangladesh.

Many people are contributing in the country's economy through attaining training from UESP Bangladesh. Australian aid believes that no Bangladeshi will lag behind. The youth will be able to earn their livelihood through this QUEST project and will be able to contribute to the family as well. They aslo want women with physical disabilities to become equally efficient. After the ceremony, the students of UCEP presented a cultural program.

UCEP stands for Underprivileged Children's Education Program. With the planning and endeavor of Lindsay Allan Cheney -- a New Zealander social worker, UCEP Bangladesh started its journey in 1972 as a non-profit private development organization. The organization has been organizing its activities in order to provide support to their community and self-help by providing general, technical education, and proper training to the poor, underprivileged children in the urban areas. UESP Bangladesh operates 32 general schools and ten technical education institutes in the country.
