Abby and I were together for 28 years. She loved me when I was nobody, she loved me until I became one of the top genetic engineers of my country.

Then she died, leaving me with an emptiness I knew I couldn't take. All my life I've only loved Abby and my work. Combining the two was the only way I could secure my future, so I abused my power to raise a clone of Abby for the past 22 years. Abby knew, her idea actually.

The clone, Abbie, sits in front of me, reading the letters Abby has left her to understand her purpose.

"There's no rush. Take your time." I break the silence.

"Yeah. Abby wrote that, if I take enough time, I'll remember why I love you," she laughs awkwardly, "I guess she knows me best."

We spend the next 3 months discovering each other. She has the same zeal for life and heart full of kindness, like Abby. I was in love. And I wanted to tell her.

So I got her favourite flowers, lilies, and set a reservation in her favourite restaurant.

Abbie looks away as I tell her how I feel.

"These aren't my favourite flowers, and I hate thai food," Abbie nearly whispers, "I'm sorry. I know I'm supposed to but, I can't remember why I'm supposed to love you."

Abbie finally looks at me, her eyes just as blue as Abby's, but now I can see exactly how different they are.

It is the early morning of Eid ul Fitr. Sarah is hosting a zoom meeting where all her friends are invited. After saying their greetings and usual chitchats they all are reminiscing the good old days.

Anaya asked, “Hey guys, do you remember the last Eid ul Fitr where we’re busy hanging out in the afternoon? Starting from Ninita’s and ending in Anica’s.”

Anica replied, “Sure thing. Gosh how much I have missed you guys! It’s been 2 and a half months since I saw you people last.”

Sarah said, “I miss hanging out at our usual spot and all the sudden plans we used to make.”

Ninita joined in the meeting and said, “Eid Mubarak girls. The first thing I’m doing after the lockdown is crushing you guys with bear hugs.”

Everyone laughed and said in unison, “You and your bear hugs.”

Ninita asked, “What’s wrong with that? Anyways, it got me thinking, is it really going to end? Will I be able to see you guys again?”

Anaya replied, “Of course it will, sweetie. Don’t stress so much.”

But no one really knows when this is truly going to end. Maybe when things will get better and the lockdown will be over they will remember their Quarantine days. They will remember the memories of uncertainty and the wait for a normal life. The current dead city will be bustling with life all over again. Till then prayers and patience are going to keep them living in hope.

It was the most comfortable dawn I have had in a while now.

He and I together were lying down on our bed under our favorite fuchsia blanket, where I was wrapped around his arms. He held me tight, tighter than I could take; it was almost as if he was afraid that I would go away somewhere. Honestly, I was a bit annoyed that his loud warm breath kept coming to my face. But I let it go, he looked too comfortable and I could not help but fall in love again with him, my Zee. We were so cozy; we shared hugs and smiles and cuddled as much as we could.

But then came the strongest sound of lightening, and my eyes opened. My sister knocked on the door to wake me up. I took the deepest exasperated breath, only to remember that Zeeshan is no more. I have been dreaming about him and his existence. My tear ducts did its job fantastically, I cried my energy off. I held his pillow tightly to my chest one more time, tighter than I could take. In the end, I finally woke, put on his Coldplay t-shirt, and went ahead to the dining table to my family to have my sehri.
