The floating guava market at Bhimruli over the the Kritipasha canal in Jhalakathi is one of the country's most scenic markets. Its origins are unknown, but locals suggest that it has been around for over a century now.
Farmers harvest the guavas from nearby orchards and bring them over to the canals on their boats. Hundreds of such boats filled with guavas gather every day during harvest season, and all trade is conducted over the waters.
Over the last few years, a surge in tourists has posed a threat to the orchards, and farmers fear this might hurt their business.
