The court also asked the government to form a five-member committee to monitor these companies, whether they are following the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) set up by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Earlier, the same High Court bench ordered the government to ban the production and marketing of antibiotics, steroids and cancer drugs by these 28 companies in 72 hours.
The court on February 27 issued a ruling after holding a primary hearing on a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.

In the ruling, the court asked the authorities concerned to explain as to why their inaction in stopping production of substandard antibiotics, anti-cancer drugs and hormone medication should not be declared illegal and why the authorities should not be directed to stop production of these medicines.
The rights group Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh filed the writ petition on February 26 with the High Court challenging the inaction of authorities concerned in implementing the recommendations of an expert committee appointed by the parliament.
According to the petitioner, the companies were manufacturing and marketing medicine without following the GMP set up by WHO.
