Legendary singer Ayub Bachchu dead at 60

Ayub Bachchu, a prolific musician, did more for the music industry than anyone can ever truly fathom

Legendary Bangladeshi singer, guitarist, and songwriter Ayub Bachchu has died in Dhaka.

Later at a press briefing, Square Hospitals Director of Medical Services Dr Mirza Nizamuddin said: “Ayub Bachchu suffered heart failure at his home around 8:30am, and left for Square Hospital with his driver by car. He died on his way to the hospital.

“He was found dead on arrival after he reached the hospital at 8:40am. On-duty doctors announced his death at 8:55am.”

Dr Mirza continued: “Bachchu underwent heart valve surgery in 2009 and was a regular patient at this hospital. His continued to suffer from heart tissue damage and health complications.”

Conveying his condolences, Feedback guitarist Labu Rahman, said: “This is an irreparable loss for Bangladesh’s music industry.”

First Janaza on Friday

The musician's family members told reporters at the hospital that his first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the National Eidgah grounds on Friday after the Jummah prayers.

He will later be buried at his family graveyard in Chittagong.

Fans will be able to pay their last respects to Ayub Bachchu at the Central Shaheed Minar plaza from 10:30am Friday till the beginning of Jumma prayer on Friday, reports Bangla Tribune — quoting cultural personality and film director Nasir Uddin Yousuf.

President Abdul Hamid has expressed his deep shock at the death of popular singer Ayub Bachchu.

In a message, he prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved family.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor also expressed his condolences to the singer’s family members.

Bachchu, the lead guitarist of musical band LRB, was born in Chittagong. He debuted in the music industry with the song “Harano Bikeler Golpo.”

In 1986, he released his first music album “Rakto Golap.” He found success with his second album “Moyna” in 1989.

He became a fan favourite by releasing the third album “Koshto” in 1995. The album was a massive hit, and the song “Koshto Pete Bhalobasi” is famous for tugging  at listener’s heartstrings.

Ayub Bachchu became a star because of this heart- touching song.

In 1991, he formed his own band LRB, where he was the lead guitarist and vocalist; before establishing his own band, he was a part of music band “Souls” for ten years.

He was a revolutionary rock singer in the country, and he impressed his listeners with modern, classic, and folk songs.

Bachchu’s illustrious career saw him perform live with: Richard and Le Gang (France); Remo Fernandez, Nandon Bugchi, and Bikram Gosh of India; Azam Khan; Feelings (now Nogor Baul); Miles; Warfaze; and many more.
