On Friday, the Fifa World Cup local organizing committee arranged several exhibition matches in the football park at Red Square among the accredited media representatives from across the world who are travelling to Moscow cover the greatest event on earth.

Three matches took place among six different teams and the organizers tried to make things interesting by having journalists from the same continent in each team. So the six teams named with Russian historical stuff were representing – Russia, Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and North America. But there were some mixing in the teams as all the players were not available at the same time.

The matches took place in a lovely afternoon with a wonderful view of Saint Basil's cathedral as the backdrop where legends like Brazillian Word Cup winning captain Cafu, Germany’s Lothar Matthaus and former Golden Ball winner Uruguay’s Diego Forlan played an exhibition match a week ago.

In the last game of the day, Asian journalists gathered in the team named after the famous Russian winter cap Ushanka and took the field against Vartrushka (a famous local desert) – a team consisting of media personnel from North America. This correspondent also played in Ushanka along with another fellow Bangladeshi journalist Rashed who played as the goalkeeper. The other players were from Singapore, Kazakhstan, Russia and Mexico.

The game was 20 minutes per half and featured six players on each side in a rolling substitution system. Eventually the Ushanka team came from 4-6 behind to win it 8-6 after some terrific team game in front of numerous football fans who were visiting Red Square at that time. This correspondent scored a hattrick and assisted two out of 5 goals to make the day remarkable for not only himself but also for Bangladesh.

There were more Bangladeshi journalists cheering them up and felt very proud when the commentators announced the name of Bangladesh in loud speaker in the packed Football Park. And the performances of the Bangladeshi media pair made a strong presence among numerous journalists across the world.

Russia World Cup is regarded as the best ever in many ways according to many. And media is one of the major parts for this achievement. These types of events involving people behind the scenes makes the job all the more special and is something to be appreciated.
