The number of diarrhoea patients have been increasing at International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b).
As of April 8, around 2000 patients were admitted there.
Patients are coming from all over the city and even from outside of Dhaka.
AKM Tariful Islam Khan, media manager of icddr,b said he has never seen such huge amounts of patients getting admitted in the last three years.
He added: “People are having diarrhoea due to lack of clean water, as distribution process is getting hampered because of construction of sewage pipelines in different parts of the city.”
Tariful suggests that it is high time to make people aware of ways to make safe drinking water.
The mother of a patient named Oliullah, said she is very worried for her son, as he has been very sick for the last four days and is missing classes. They do not have access to pure water in their area.
A patient from Gazipur, who is unable to go to work, said it is affecting his family as well because he is the bread earner.
Those who are admitted at icddr,b, are generally very poor. The hospital authorities are trying their best to provide the best treatments to their patients, they said.
