The hospital is managed by Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University
Bangladesh’s first-ever pet animal hospital has started its journey in Dhaka’s Purbachal area.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid formally inaugurated the hospital as the chief guest yesterday.
The hospital is managed by the Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU).
The hospital titled "Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Centre" was also set up for providing hands-on training to interns and postgraduate veterinary doctors.
Professor Abdul Mannan, chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Sohrab Hossain, secretary to the Secondary and Higher Education Division and Prof Dr Goutam Buddha Das Vice Chancellor of CVASU were also those who, among others, attended the inaugural ceremony.
While speaking at the ceremony, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said the business of a university is to create knowledge through research activities.
"Acquiring education is not sufficient in the present competitive world. A student has to acquire skill in their respective discipline. The country's image will be brightened if we can send veterinary professionals abroad," said Nahid.
"Among the public universities of the country, the CVASU is a specialized higher education institution. The university has been contributing to the generation of employment and socio-economic uplift," added Nahid.
"The hospital will provide modern treatment to pet animals. The hospital will certainly play a great role in ensuring qualitative veterinary education and research," said the minister.
CVASU VC Prof Dr Goutam said: "A multi-storied structure will be constructed alongside the present infrastructure of the hospital.
“The pet animal hospital is now equipped with a Digital X-ray, ultra-sonogram and microsporemachines. The hospital will soon have medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, radiology and imaging and vaccination units."
