Dengue: 150 more hospitalized in Bangladesh in 24 hours, no fresh death reported

The mosquito-borne disease has claimed 73 lives this year so far

As many as 150 new dengue patients were hospitalized across the country in the 24 hours till Friday morning.

The number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease remained static at 73 as no fresh death was reported during the period, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the fatalities, 68 people died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chittagong and Khulna divisions and one in Rajshahi.

Among the new patients, 137 were undergoing treatment in Dhaka’s hospitals while the remaining 13 cases were reported from outside the division.

Some 886 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Friday morning.

Of them, 729 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 157 were listed outside the capital.

A total of 19,694 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across the country since January this year. Of them, 18,735 have returned home after recovery, the DGHS said.

The highest number of dengue patients hospitalized in a single day so far this year was 343 patients on September 7.

In September the country recorded the highest number of 7,841 dengue cases of the current year with 22 deaths.

In August the country recorded the highest number of 7,698 dengue cases of the current year.
