One died and three others tested positive for coronavirus in the area, says police
Police have locked down around 200 houses in two lanes of Old Dhaka after the death of a man and three positive cases for coronavirus were found on Tuesday.
Police say they have put Lalbagh Boro Vatt mosque and Crescent Club Lane in Nawabganj under Lalbagh Police Station, and Khawaja Dewan Lane under Chawkbazar Police Station, under lockdown.
Inspector (Investigation) of Chawkbazar Police Station, Kabir Hossain Hawlader, said that the vice-president of the local mosque committee in Khawaja Dewan Lane, has been found positive for coronavirus.
Another woman of the same area also got infected with coronavirus. Family members of both the victims have been removed from the area, he added.
“We have put around 200 houses in the two lanes under lockdown as we suspect the virus might spread further,” Kabir Hossain said.
No one has been allowed to enter or leave their houses since Tuesday, he said.
Meanwhile, Office in-charge of Lalbagh Police Station KM Ashraf Uddin said a man with coronavirus symptoms died in Lalbagh Boro Vatt mosque area. “So we have locked down five buildings in the area,” he said.
Five more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Tuesday, raising the death toll to 17.
41 other people have tested positive for Covid-19 during the period, taking the number of such cases in the country to 164.
