The tally of patients clearly shows a whopping 600% rise over the span of just nine days

With days passing by, coronavirus cases kept spiralling alarmingly in Bangladesh which saw a six-fold rise in patients just between April 1 and April 9.

On April 1, the South Asian nation reported just one death and three fresh Covid-19 positive cases, amounting to a total of six fatalities and 54 patients since March 8 till then, when Bangladesh confirmed its first three positive cases.

Shockingly, both tallies of deceased and infected patients jumped to 21 and 330 respectively on Thursday, clearly showing a whopping 600% rise in the latter over the span of just nine days.

The situation started worsening further from April 4, the day the country confirmed two Covid-19 casualties and nine new infected patients.

In mere six days since April 4, the health authorities announced 15 more Covid-19 deaths, with the highest (five) reported on April 7 alone.

The upward trend in infected cases witnessed a new high on Thursday as 112 people—the highest in the country as of yet-- tested positive for the virus anew. The number is more than double when compared to the count (54) of April 8.

It is noteworthy that throughout the last month since March 8, there was just 51 infections and five deaths.

As criticism spiralled amid an acute shortage of testing kits, the government started to collect more samples for testing, expanding Covid-19 screening across the country from early this month.

The widened testing is mainly helping in detection of more infections and thus increasing the number of people infected with the virus, which has so far infected no less than 1,487,870 people, killing 88,630 of them globally till April 9.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus was more than 88,500 as of Thursday morning, according to Worldometer.

Also, over 1,518,700 people have been infected around the world since the highly contagious disease was first reported in China in December last year.
