Coronavirus: Over 40 million citizens provided aid under govt schemes

A total of 1.24 lakh metric tons of rice have so far been allocated by the government for the 64 districts

More than 40,000,000 citizens have so far received relief items under the aid schemes undertaken by the government.

The disclosure was made through a Press Information Department (PID) handout, saying, "The government continues providing its relief assistance to lessen the sufferings of the common people throughout the country during this crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.” 

A total of 1.24 lakh metric tons of rice have so far been allocated for the 64 districts, reports UNB.

Of the total amount, 96,000 metric tons have been distributed until Saturday, benefitting 98.18 lakh families, covering an estimated 47,000,000 people, it said.

Tk43.17 crore has been distributed among 53.68 lakh families across the country, covering an estimated 25,300,000 crore people.

Apart from these, the total allocation for baby food essential in all the districts is worth Tk12.45 crore. Of that, Tk8.92 crore was distributed among 2.75 lakh families, the handout added.

As of Sunday, Bangladesh confirmed 9,455 coronavirus cases with the death toll rising to 177 after five new fatalities were reported.

The fast spreading Covid-19 has so far killed 245,000 people in more than 200 countries and territories.
