Nearly 150 more students and 250 more families still need financial assistance on an urgent basis
With the whole country into a lockdown since March 26, which would be lifted in two days, many students of Khulna University who support themselves are facing hardship. They can neither give tuition nor work part-time at offices where they used to work.
With the university remaining closed for over two months now, those who earn their livelihoods by selling tea, fruit juice, snacks, and affordable meals to KU students are also going through severe financial difficulties.
The Khulna University Alumni Association (KUAA) has come forward to stand by students and small businessmen living in adjacent areas who are in dire need of financial assistance. Till May 11, the KUAA executive committee has collected a total of Tk13,30,353.
However, nearly 150 more students and 250 more families still need financial assistance on an urgent basis. To meet these immediate challenges, the KUAA still needs to raise a fund of at least Tk11,00,000.
In a briefing sent to media outlets, KUAA Secretary Fazle Reza Sumon has requested all former students and teachers of KU to help raise the fund.
Those who are interested can send their contributions to the following bKash number: 01967638888, or to the following bank account: Account Name: KUAA Reunion 2015/ Account No: 126.151.61293/ Bank Name: Dutch Bangla Bank Limited/Branch Name: Elephant Road Branch/Swift Code: DBBLBDDH/ Routing No: 090261338.
Till May 11, the KUAA has distributed a total of Tk11,72, 364 to 209 undergraduate and 11 graduate students, and food parcels to 595 families (2,500 people in total) and 50 KU staff. In addition to fund distribution, the association has also donated 140 PPEs to three medical colleges and 950 face masks to six health complexes and 1,500 hand sanitizers to different people.
