Doctor dies with Covid-19 symptoms in Chittagong

Dr Arif Hasan was a student of 49th batch of the Dhaka Medical College

A physician died with Covid-19 symptoms while undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Friday.

Dr Arif Hasan breathed his last around 9:30pm at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital when he was brought there with breathing problems.

Dr Aftabul Islam, deputy director of CMCH, said: "He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital with Covid-19 symptoms for a week. On Friday, he died at the CMCH ICU unit before doctors could put him under oxygen support."

Dr Arif was a student of the 49th batch of the Dhaka Medical College. He used to live at Abedin Colony area under the Chittagong city Kotwali police station and had a private chamber in Pahartali.

Dr ANM Minhazur Rahman, central organizing secretary of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip) said Dr Arif died of cardiac arrest, adding that sample was taken from the deceased for Covid-19 test.

Previously, Ehsanul Karim, a doctor of Marine City Medical College and Hospital and Dr Mohidul Hasan, a physician of the CMCH died of Covid-19 while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
