After repeated attempts, the family did not agree to arrange a funeral for him, so we arranged it at the local crematorium, police said
Police recovered the dead body of a man from Natiapara on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. He was abandoned by his family when he died from Covid-19.
The deceased, Chetan Chandra Das, 30, tested positive about a week ago and died on Sunday last, police sources say.
Father of the deceased, Nakul Chandra Das, and brother Atul Chandra Das, feared they could not cremate him on the village grounds. Fearing a backlash from locals, they dumped the body by the roadside, confirmed Delduwar police station OC AK Saidul Haque Bhuiyan.
Upon information from locals, Tangail highway police recovered the body and informed us, said the OC.
“As we could not identify the deceased, we sought help from the Crime Investigation Department. They took his fingerprints and confirmed his identity,” continued OC Saidul.
“However, after repeated attempts, the family did not agree to arrange a funeral for him, so we arranged it at the local crematorium,” the OC added.
