Bangladesh has registered 41 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 4,634.
The country also reported 2,746 people recovering from the disease over the preceding 24 hours. So far, 233,550 patients — 70.14% of all infected — have made full recovery across the country.
The country also logged more than 332,000 coronavirus cases with 1,892 people testing positive over the same period.
With this development, the number of all confirmed cases so far jumped to 332,970.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Thursday.
Of the 41 deceased – 31 men and 10 women – 22 were from Dhaka division, six from Chittagong, five from Rajshahi, three from Khulna, two each from Rangpur and Mymensingh, and one from Sylhet division.
So far, 3,613 men (77.97%) and 1021 women (22.03%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.39%.
The DGHS said 15,642 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.
As many as 15,559 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 94 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country and 1,892 new patients were confirmed.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 12.16%.
To date, 1,659,697 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 19.7% so far.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 908,522 lives and infected 28,054,015 people across the world till Tuesday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 20,120,422 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
