Covid-19: 7-day moving average of daily deaths below 10 for a week

The 7-day moving average of daily deaths in Bangladesh has been below 10 for seven days straight.

Bangladesh has recorded 515 new cases and seven more deaths over the last 24 hours till on Tuesday afternoon.

With that, the current death toll in Bangladesh stands at 8,423, with a total of 547,316 infections.

As of Tuesday, the rolling average stood at 7. On February 24, the 7-day moving average went below 10 (9.29), for the first time in months ever since death toll went up from May. The rolling average on May 12, last year, stood at 9.57 before skyrocketing.

For a 7-day moving average, one has to take the data of the last one week, add them up, and divide it by 7. The most common application of moving average is to identify trend direction.

A press release was issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.

The overall test positivity percentage till on Tuesday was, however, 13.44% with a total of 4,072,922 tests being conducted across the country till now.

As many as 15,325 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 216 authorized labs — government and private — across the country.

The latest figures showed a test positivity rate of 3.36%.

Of the seven deceased — five men and two women —three were from Dhaka division, and four from Chittagong division.

All of them died while undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country.

The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far still stands at 1.54%.

The health authorities said 894 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.

So far, 498,691 patients – 91.12% of all infected – have made full recovery across the country.

On March 8, the health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.

The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December of 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

The fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 2,551,000 lives and infected as many as 115,049,000 people across the world till Tuesday afternoon, according to worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics.

As many as 90,769,000 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has affected 219 countries and territories across the planet.
