The notice comes at a time when the government extended the lockdown but at the same time opened up markets for Eid
The government has advised all yet again to use two masks if necessary, in a move to curb the surge in cases.
“Strict action will be taken against those who are not wearing masks while going outside despite the repeated and strict instructions,” said an official government notice issued on Monday.
Due to the increasing number of Covid-19 infection cases, people have been asked to wear masks while going outside the house, otherwise they would have to face stern punishment, reported BSS citing the statement.
The government has advised everyone to use two masks if necessary, it added.
The move comes as the government opened up shopping malls, marketplaces, and shops ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr. As that happened, thousands flocked to markets for Eid shopping, many flouting health regulations altogether.
At the same time, it also extended the ongoing lockdown for another week.
The country has been facing a sudden surge in Covid-19 cases since the beginning of March, what has been dubbed as the second wave.
On Monday alone, 97 people fell victim to the virus over the span of 24 hours while 3,306 new cases were logged.
The death toll in the country currently stands at 11,150 and the total number of cases at 748,628.
Bangladesh went for a lax lockdown since April 7, and after a week, toughened up restrictions on movement.
