All online academic activities will continue, says the education ministry
The ongoing shutdown of universities has been extended till May 29, says the Education Ministry.
The decision was taken to safeguard the health of students, teachers, employees and guardians amid the increasing transmission rate of Covid-19 across the country, according to a statement by the ministry’s spokesperson MA Khayer on Sunday.
However, online academic activities classes will continue, it said.

The decision was taken after consulting the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19, the statement added.
The ministry announced earlier that universities would reopen from May 24.
In mid-March last year, the government had closed all educational institutions in a bid to tackle the pandemic. The closure was extended in several phases while online schooling took off.
However, the high infection rate of Covid-19 has led the government to extend the closure further.
The Education Ministry is determined to keep the institutions closed until the infection rate reaches or drops below 5%, according to media reports.
