Satkhira Medical College Hospital is supposed to get an addition of 100 more beds to the existing 150 beds available for Covid-19 patients
Satkhira District Committee on Coronavirus Prevention has decided to stop admitting new Covid-19 patients at Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
Instead, 100 more beds will be added to the Satkhira Medical College Hospital (SMCH) for Covid-19 treatment.
The decision was taken at a virtual meeting of the committee on Monday.
Mustafa Lutfullah, lawmaker for Satkhira -1 constituency, Mir Mushtaque Ahmed Robi, lawmaker for Satkhira -2 constituency, SMCH Ex-Principal Dr Habibur Rahman, Dr Shekh Kudrat-E-Khuda, Satkhira Civil Surgeon Dr Hussain Shafayet, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Sajib Khan, and Satkhira Press Club President Mamtaz Ahmed Bapi were present at the virtual meeting.
Civil Surgeon Dr Hussain Shafayet said 100 more beds will be added to Satkhira Medical College Hospital to meet the new influx of Covid-19 patients. If that does not meet the demand, further steps will be taken subject to discussion.
“The Corona ward at sadar hospital will remain open until the Covid-19 patients admitted to the hospital recover and get released,” he added.
At present Satkhira Medical College Hospital has 150 beds for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
Earlier, due to the increased pressure of Covid-19 patients in SMCH, patients were admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital last week.
As a result, the risk of coronavirus infection increased due to the lack of preparation, as the hospital failed to maintain proper health protocols.
Upazila Nirbahi officials were also involved in the virtual discussion.
