Over 300 deaths logged at RMCH Covid unit in June

Ten more deaths recorded in the 24 hours to Sunday morning

The coronavirus unit at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) has recorded 301 deaths in June after 10 more fatalities were reported in the 24 hours to Sunday morning. 

“This is the highest-ever death toll in a month at the Covid unit. The figure was 29 in January, 17 in February, 31 in March, 79 in April and 124 in May,” RMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani told Dhaka Tribune.

Of the ten fatalities in the 24 hours, one was tested positive while the rest had  symptoms, he said.

Four of them were from Rajshahi, as many from Natore and two came from Chapainawabganj, added the top RMCH official.

Fifty-five patients were admitted to the Covid unit in the 24 hours to 8am on Sunday. 

As many as 188 samples were tested at RMCH lab through RT-PCR and 49 of them came positive while 373 were tested at Rajshahi Medical College lab and 85 of them were Covid-19 positive.

The daily infection rate stood at 29.08%, down from 34.05% the previous day.

The district administration has extended its complete lockdown for another week in Rajshahi metropolis on Wednesday.

The lockdown in the city, scheduled to end on Thursday midnight, will now continue till June 30 suspending all connectivity to the city from different upazilas and nearby districts.
