245 new infections reported in the 24 hours
The western district of Kushtia, bordering India, has reported its highest daily deaths from Covid-19 since the pandemic broke out.
As many as 23 deaths were logged in the 24 hours to Sunday morning at the Kushtia General Hospital in the district town.
Of them, 18 tested positive for the virus while the rest died with symptoms, said Resident Medical Officer Tapas Kumar Sarkar.
A total of 245 new infections were reported during the same time. As many as 892 samples were tested, with a positivity rate of 27.47%.
The state-run hospital is now treating 288 patients with coronavirus symptoms and another 3,552 people are in home isolations.
“The number of patients is increasing every day, forcing us to accommodate people on the floor of the corona ward. If the situation worsens, it will be very difficult for us to handle us with limited manpower" said Tapasa.
The district has so far counted 241 fatalities while the caseload stands at 10,305, according to health authorities.
