The infection rate has come down to 24.03%
The number of fresh Covid-19 cases and the infection rate have decreased in Rangpur division.
The division recorded a 20.46% test positivity rate with 71 fresh cases after testing 347 newly-collected samples.
Six people died due to the deadly virus in eight districts till Wednesday morning.
Moreover, the infection rate came down to 24.03%, Rangpur Divisional Health Department Director Motaharul Islam confirmed.
“The Covid-19 positivity rate continues to show a steady trend with a little variation in recent days,” said Dr ZA Siddiqui, assistant director (health) of the division.
Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 24.03% on Tuesday, 22.37% on Monday, 25.54% on Sunday, 24.48% on Saturday, 18.84% on Friday and 24.78% on Thursday last in the division.
In the last 13 days, the number of Covid deaths exceeded 100 while more than 1,500 have been infected.
The number of Covid-19 patients climbed to 49,470 as 71 new positive cases were reported on Wednesday from across the division, said Motaharul Islam.
The number of infections is increasing every day due to non-observance of hygiene rules and for not wearing masks, according to officials.
Meanwhile, no ICU beds were available for new patients at Rangpur Covid Hospital and Dinajpur Covid Hospital.
According to the Divisional Health Department, Covid infection has reached alarming proportions in the division, especially in Dinajpur, Rangpur, Thakurgaon, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts.
District-wise Covid status
The district-wise break up of total 49,470 Covid positive patients now stands at 11,224 in Rangpur, 3,159 in Panchagarh, 4,038 in Nilphamari, 2,463 in Lalmonirhat, 4,141 in Kurigram, 6,654 in Thakurgaon, 13,528 in Dinajpur and 4,263 in Gaibandha of the division.
Among the 71 new patients, 37 were reported positive after diagnosing 159 newly collected samples at the Covid-19 laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city on Wednesday.
“The 37 new patients include 18 from Rangpur, seven from Kurigram, eight from Gaibandha and four from Lalmonirhat districts,” said Prof Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu, principal of RpMC.
On the other hand, 34 more new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur on Wednesday.
“The 34 new Covid-19 infected patients include 26 from Dinajpur, four from Thakurgaon and two each from Panchagarh and Nilphamari districts,” said Principal of MARMC Prof Dr Syed Nazir Hossain.
As many as 2,33,931 samples have been tested in Rangpur division till now. Of these, 49,399 came out positive and 39,846 people have recovered so far.
Among them, 13,502 were infected in Dinajpur, 11,206 in Rangpur, 6,650 in Thakurgaon, 4,255 in Gaibandha, 4,129 in Kurigram, 4,036 in Nilphamari, 3,157 in Panchagarh and 2,459 in Lalmonirhat.
