Covid-19: Recovery cases near 61,000 in Chittagong

The number of Covid-19 recovery cases reached 60,934 in the district where the infection rate continues to reduce in recent days.

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus has reached 60,934 in the district with the recovery of 593 more patients on Friday with a recovery rate of 64.58%,” Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chittagong, said.

Meanwhile, five persons died of Covid-19 and 466 more people tested positive for the deadly virus till Saturday morning in the district.

The death toll reached 1,116 after five fatalities were reported in the district, Dr Rabbi added.

Among the reported fatalities, 646 were the residents of the port city and the rest 470 were from different upazilas of the district.

The number of new Covid positive cases rapidly rose to 94,350 with 446 new after testing 2330 samples in the district. The infection rate is 19.97%.

Among the newly infected patients, 297 are from Chittagong city and 169 from different upazilas of the district, according to hospital sources.

Among the total infected people, 69,338 are from the port city and the rest 25,012 from different upazilas.

A total of 4924 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals in Chittagong.
