Cuff it, roll it, stack it

Cuff it, roll it, stack it
In most cases, men go shopping for bottoms hanging off some spiffy racks at their favourite store. And while the waist might fit like a glove, that leaves the hassle of the length of the pant leg. Some may run long, while others break at the perfect spot. So, whether you have jeans, chinos or casual trousers, here are the perfect ways to cuffing, rolling and stacking.

Roll it

The double-roll pretty much works with all kinds of shoes and pants, especially with low-top sneakers and dress shoes. The thing is, most of us are not known for our height, so a double-roll just won’t do. The key to the double-roll is aiming for a 1.5” cuff. The first roll should be slightly less than an inch, and the second roll should be a bit bigger. Rolling one more or couple of more times can be difficult with jeans. With denim aside, you’ll have a better time rolling chinos or casual trousers. As for dress pants, well, get them tailored. No compromising. However, if the denim is thin enough, you might be able to pull it off. Well, at least roll it up three times. The idea here is to roll it up far enough so that your pant leg is barely covering your ankle. When the time comes to sit down, the pant leg will rise up far enough for a full ankle exposure. Oh la-la, très sexy, no?

Throwback cuff

This is a cuffing style you’ll probably find from decades past. No illusions here, this will be very difficult to pull of, knowing how deep the cuff will be. This style works best with work boots and old school high-tops like Chuck Taylor All-Star classics. The truth is, this won’t look good on just anyone. Before it hit pop culture, men had to deep cuff their jeans out of necessity and not out of being in style. And this style won’t just look flattering on its own; you’ll have to correspond with the rest of your outfit, from head to toe.

Stacks on stacks on stacks

A style that works best with running sneakers and Timberlake-like boots, stacking the pant leg isn’t as easy as it may seem. Stacking the pant leg with denim can be a total disaster. In reality, ridiculously slim denim might work best in this fashion. Outside of denim, modern-day sweats are possibly the best choice for this style. Aesthetically, the soft and warm effect of the fabric makes the stacking style much more tolerable. And let’s not forget the ankle-band that most of the fitted sweats or trainers have out today.

Hem cropping

High-top sneakers and Chelsea boots are the ideal choices with the more sophisticated cropped hem style. This is, of course, your tailoring option for jeans or casual trousers. This is more about putting your shoes on display, rather than showing off your cropped pant legs. For all you shorter guys out there, this is your best option to create the illusion of having longer and leaner legs. You have to be very careful though. Once cropped, you won’t be able to bring them back down to roll them up. Since we’re near 2017, it doesn’t hurt to have a couple of pairs of jeans that have cropped hems for certain occasions. We continue to blur the lines between casual, semi-formal and formal wear. It’s only right to have as many options as possible. The best kind of denim for this style is dressy jeans for obvious reasons. High-quality denim looks best for semi-formal, classy outfits.
