A Boishakhi man’s choice
Sure, there’s plenty of options to be had, if you browse through stores like Noir, Aarong or Kay Kraft. You could always go to your local tailor and get a panjabi or kurta made for this annual occasion, but then you’d probably be wasting money. Hear me out. The truth is you’ll see plenty of decent designed kurtas off the rack that will give you the look you are searching for. Within that little fact, it coincides with this ridiculous humid heat. In other words, while the ladies go out of their way to go all out Broadway with their outfits, you can safely tread throughout the day in stride. THREADS When it comes to harsh or uncomfortable weather, it all comes down to the fabric in your clothes. The humidity or warmth, while the menacing clouds tease rain, actually calls for lighter and breathable fabrics like pure cotton or linen. This is pretty much a no-brainer. Albeit you’ll spend most of the day indoors (let’s hope), you’ll still want to fend off all that body heat around you in closed doors. It also goes without saying, the colours you choose have plenty to do with you keeping your cool. Keep the dark colours reserved for a classier outing for the evening. The daytime adventures require lighter or brighter colours. STYLIN’ AND PROFILIN’ Apart from the right fabrics and colours, the design of each panjabi or kurta doesn’t necessarily have to be simple. But it can’t look confusing or too over-the-top. Remember, you’re aiming for a casual outfit and look, so keeping things simple is a must. If you want a more traditional and ethnic design, heading to Aarong wouldn’t be a bad idea. A more progressive take, with more aesthetically appealing choices, Noir and Yellow would be a better option. The latter, however, has slightly lost its form so don’t expect too much from them. If you must have embroidery on your tops, make sure (again) that it’s for a more semi-formal look. COMFY BUT NOT LAZY The fit of your kurta or panjabi is essential. This rule applies to all, no matter what the occasion is. Beat this idea into your head if you must. As you’ve might have already noticed, men’s fashion is up-to-date when it comes to fit and cut. Try finding a slim-fit panjabi that will give you the best silhouette, complementing the pajama or slim-fit jeans you decide to wear with the entire look. Even if what you find is slim-fit, you’ll feel that it’s still easy to slip into. Once again, the entire design and cut is to make you feel cool and comfortable. Just as long as you have the right fabric, you won’t have to compromise too much on the fit. A SMARTER TAKE What about the accessories you say? There will be various designs to choose from, be it patterned, striped or embroidered. But the kurta will feel naked without the proper supporting cast. Put on some simple, leather strapped sandals that will round off the entire outfit. Remember to wear an undershirt and keep a handkerchief wherever you go. And no matter what anyone says about what you are wearing, your grooming better be on point. An outfit will only be accentuated by how healthy your face looks; well-shaven or trimmed beard and a fresh new haircut is where it’s at. Keep it classy, casual and smart.
