6 things you can do now to make your home pop

If you’ve been planning to revamp your decor, Eid provides an occasion to debut some simple, dynamic changes into your space. Here are six ways to make a splash.

Chintz is in

Chintz has been big this year. Floral fabric on walls, furniture, and windows has made a big comeback. In the world of fashion and décor, what’s new is what was forgotten but is loved again. You can go for uniform floral fabric decorations all over.

Bright is right

2018 has been about making statements with colour. Throw some colour on your walls. Bold shades like apple green, forest green, cactus green, burnt orange, shocking pink, and even yellow have been a favourite for interior designers. Notice a dominance of green? That’s because in the dense concrete jungle that is our beloved Dhaka, green gives a welcome flavour of nature.

A bit more “green”

Pattern plants have been heavily searched online this year, and for the right reasons. As mentioned already, in the increasingly congested concrete jungle and pollution, a breath of life in the form of plants would definitely give you and your guests a refreshing feel, and will make an impression of you being a host with a taste.

Work your ceiling

Statement ceilings have made a big comeback this year. A surefire sign of grandeur, statement ceilings were a no-go in the era of minimalistic design. However, because it adds a refreshing touch to your room while retaining the old school grandeur, they have become the designers’ darlings again.

If you paint your ceilings, keep the colour lighter as opposed to walls, especially if your room is smaller. That’s because without as much light as on the walls, it will look darker and make the space look smaller. Go for light green, orange, or pink.

Using wallpapers on ceilings is another awesome way to add a different dimension to the room. Floral, scenic or geometric patterns are a good way to go.

Mural ceilings, although the hardest to do, can take your décor to a whole new level. If you’re ambitious and want to give it a go, you can, although it’s okay to stick to painting or wallpapers.

Pendants over chandeliers

The champion of lighting, the chandelier is going to take a back seat to the unconventional pendants. This year, chandeliers have made way for oversized pendants in the living and dining rooms. It’s a welcome change from the oft-familiar sight, and will help your overall décor stand out.

Handmade ceramics

A welcome change from the gadgets you see all around all the time, intricately designed handmade ceramics are poised to dominate the rest of the year, offering a “human” touch to your digital surroundings.
