Rain, rain, go away, come back another day

It feels soothing to listen to the pitter-patter and watch the rain knocking against the window, while you’re curled up on your couch with a hot cup of tea. But when you have some errands to run or go to work and there’s a torrential downpour outside, it doesn’t feel so blissful, does it? And figuring out what to wear on these unpredictable rainy days can take a lot of energy and time, and sometimes cause a blunder.

So this monsoon season, let Ave t be your guide to dressing for the rain. Follow these trendy ideas, and don’t let the rain stop you from being the diva you are.

Boot up

As roads in Dhaka tend to get pretty muddy and overflowed with sewage water during and after rain, it’s best to own a pair of boots so that you don’t have to worry about walking down a pool of water from the drain. But don’t go for the leather ones as they soak up the water. Rain boots or ankle duck boots would be best for the weather, while flat covered jelly shoes would go well with traditional attires.

Fake a sunny day

Just because the weather's gloomy, it doesn’t mean you have to look like you’re going to a funeral or just had your heart broken. Go for bright colours like red, aqua blue, or even yellow, it’ll remind you of the sunny days and cheer you up. It can be a colourful sari or dress/kurti, a bold lipstick, or even in the form of an accessory. Just avoid wearing loose sandals though, because it’s not really “sunny” outside. Instead, wear something which is slip resistant and won’t squirt dirt back at you. Wedges, sandals with belts, or any kind of covered shoes would be ideal for the weather and compliment your attire too.

Sneak in the sneakers

If you're more about comfort, don’t have much time on your hand, or the rain simply makes you lazy, this one's for you. Put those skinny jeans or cropped pants on, a white T-shirt/tank top, and you can layer up with a flannel shirt, shrug, or even a waterproof bomber. Finish off your look with a pair of black or any bright coloured sneakers other than white. You don’t want to spend the rest of the day rubbing off that dirt/sticky mud that’s glued to your shoes.
