A new book featuring creative pieces by Bangladeshi writers aims to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence. Entitled Golden: Bangladesh At 50, the book will be edited by fiction writer Shazia Omar and published by University Press Limited.
From the liberation of the nation to the loneliness of the pandemic, these stories and poems, by writers at home and abroad, offer a fresh look at Bangladesh as the country celebrates its golden jubilee. Through train rides and birthday cakes, triumphs and betrayals, love and loss and magic, they offer us a glimpse into the vastness of what it means to be Bangladeshi, says a press release.

Writers and poets featured in the anthology include Kaiser Haq, Mahmud Rahman, Nadeem Zaman, Sabrina Ahmad, Zeeshan Khan, MK Aaref, Neeman Sobhan, Arif Anwar, Sabahat Jahan, Lubna Mariam, Pracheta Alam, Nahyan Ameen, Nadia Kabir Barb, Abeer Y. Hoque, Shabnam Nadiya, Maria Chaudhuri, Salahdin Imam, Namira Hossain, Farah Ghuznavi, Munize Manzur and Iffat Nawaz.
Shazia Omar is the author of two novels: Dark Diamond and Like a Diamond in the Sky.
