Top summer men’s fragrances
It doesn’t matter if you’ve been invited to a posh shindig or it’s a regular day at the office, you have to smell your best. While deodorants are a must for those hidden areas, your choice of eau de toilette or parfum is absolutely vital if you are to take on summer on the right notes (pun not intended). From base notes to the top ones, here is the best of the best in this season’s fragrances. We suggest you buy more than one. Some bottles are more expensive than others, but keep in mind that these are proper investments. There’s a misconception about purchasing expensive bottles; they won’t last long or it’s simply not worth buying a fragrance in such a small bottle. On the contrary, if you have that kind of thought process, you’re simply doing it wrong. These bottles are meant to be used on occasions and you should only be spraying the scent twice behind each ear and also once in the middle of your collarbones. In other words, don’t douse yourself in it like it’s Axe body spray. That, gentlemen, is a huge no-no. intense_edt_100ml

Paco Rabanne Invictus Intense

As if the original Invictus wasn’t intense enough, the new version is a worthwhile investment because of its improved and heightened ingredients. As a user of the original Invictus, we can go as far to saying Intense has warmer and creamier touch. There’s an instant bite to the smell from the addition of this year’s spring/summer keynote, amber. The original may not have outsold the more popular 1 million bottle, but the newest bottle of Intense is a rightful replacement to the original. As mentioned, you might want to bag in another bottle appropriate for daywear. Invictus Intense is definitely one to be kept for evenings out. Just keep in mind, a couple of sprays will do. Just as it says on the box, this number is quite intense, and they aren’t kidding. But if you want to be closer to the ocean breeze, give Invictus Aqua Eau de Toilette a shot. Grapefruit, pink pepper, a lemony vibe thrown with violet leaf, seawater, ambergris, amberwood and Guaiac makes for a solid daytime substitute. Fragrance notes: Black pepper, orange flower, laurel leaf, ambergris, whiskey cream, salty black amber. bleu_de_chanel_edt_masculino_2_2

Bleu de Chanel

Then there are those that sneak past seasons (even years) into the next, placing themselves as a trusted bottle in your drawers or tabletops. This particular bottle is a classic. There’s a faint hint of musk that seems to be more appropriate for the winter, but just light enough to use in the warmer months. Like the popular Acqua Di Giò by Giorgio Armani (another wise investment), you’ll never have to worry about it running out of stock. Once a bottle is deemed a classic, it has solidified its position of being a go-to or used as a standby, if you ever feel you can’t make up your mind on what to wear for the day. When you think of fresh sophistication, think Blue de Chanel. Its main accords are woody, balsamic and citrus, while the fresh spicy element transitions into green and amber. Fragrance notes: Pink peppercorn, citrus, peppermint, nutmeg, vetiver, grapefruit, cedar, labdanum, jasmine, incense, patchouli, ginger, sandalwood. Gucci

 Gucci Pour Homme II

It took the creator, Karine Dubreuil about four years to come up with a magnificent sequel in this bottle. The obvious popularity isn’t going to hide the success of the first, but Homme II might just have enough to steal the show this time around. What stands out most, apart from the scent itself, is the minimal and polished look of the bottle. With so many wonderfully designed bottles by high-end labels, the simplicity and colour scheme of this new bottle screams summer sophistication. The elegant and masculine signature of the original bottle remains, while making things lighter and brighter. The initial hit of the scent is introduced by fresh violet leaves and bergamot, leading the way for a green, fruity notes from Pimento, cinnamon and black tea. Even more impressive, just like fashion, it has made its way back onto the list of fragrances to have for this summer. The bottle was first available to the world 10 years ago. Whether it was 2007 or now in 2017, the Homme II is a must have, and don’t be too shy to make this bottle a part of your regular arsenal of scents. Fragrance notes: Bergamot, violet leaves, Pimento, black tea, cinnamon, tobacco leaves, musk, myrrh, olive wood. LIGHT-BLUE-EAU-INTENSE-POUR-HOMME-200ML-SIMPLE-PACKSHOT-e1489066244229

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense Pour Homme

If there ever were a scent that screamed Mediterranean Sea, it would be Light Blue from Dolce & Gabbana. Not too long ago, the label had re-launched the popular fragrance, bringing back the iconic figures of the original campaign with models David Gandy, Bianca Balti and photographer Mario Testino. The new approach introduced us to an evolved state of the bottle in Light Blue Eau Intense for both men and women. A master of the art, Alberto Morillas has taken the citrus top notes of mandarin and frozen grapefruit that transition into the aroma of juniper, which ends with a touch of musk, in between the salty, aquatic accords and amber woods. A couple of sprays of this bottle on your skin, and there will be a sudden flash of transporting yourself to the coast of Capri, Italy. Users have already weighed in on it, longevity and sillage of the scent is of the highest marks. But always keep in mind it always depends on your skin on how affective the fragrance can be. Generally speaking, buying a bottle of this beauty will do a solid job throughout the entire summer. Although it’s used during the warmer months, don’t be afraid to take this into the next season and onward. Fragrance notes: Mandarin, frozen grapefruit, juniper, salty aquatic accord, amber woods and musks. Bvlgari

Aqva Pour Homme Atlatique Bvlgari

A long-awaited sequel to the 2005 bottle, the Atlatique just made its debut appearance this past March. Jacques Cavallier, the creator of the original bottle, attempted to bring the Atlantic Ocean into this attractive scent. The scent is compared to something that is refreshing, and is an energetic aquatic fragrance. Found deep in the heart of the scent, the sea amber notes take centre stage as the top notes are layered with Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian lemon and vital water accord. This bottle can also project a sort of an athletic tone, which can be ideal for those who are more active throughout the day than not. With that in mind, this can last you for quite some time, but might take a slight hit on the projection of the scent. In that case, especially on a hot and humid day, you might want to spray a couple of times behind each ear and rub it a couple of times with your wrists. Fragrance notes: Aquatic notes, Calabrian, bergamot, Sicilian lemon, marine amber accord, vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood and benzoin. tom-ford-neroli-portofino-1-7-oz-edp-for-women-and-men-1

Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford

Alright, hold onto your horses, this number isn’t for everyone. We say that because $225 for a 50ml bottle isn’t the most attractive deal. But as mentioned, if it’s an eau de parfum, expect it to be nothing but premium quality. Tom Ford’s Private Blend Neroli Portofino for men is in the higher echelon of fragrances for the summer. This citrusy and white floral dominant scent is all about channelling the coastlines of Italy trapped in the exquisite, green glass bottle. The Rodrigo Flores-Roux creation from 2011 still stands out for those who wish to make a statement on an evening out. This also means that you’ll have to spray this particular bottle sparingly. The initial kick is fresh and can last for quite some time. It all depends on your skin compared to others. For some it lasted an entire day, while others complained it could have lasted longer. No matter the skin, it’s still quite a strong scent that will gradually balance itself out throughout the time period of wearing it. Fragrance notes: Top notes consists of bergamot, mandarin orange, lemon, lavender, myrtle, rosemary, bitter orange; middle notes consists of African orange flower, jasmine, neroli and pitosporum; base notes consists of amber, ambrette (musk mallow) and angelica.
