Autumn attire and trends
Dealing with the traditionally autumn months from other parts of the world doesn’t necessarily correlate to our climate. While it may be the same time of the year as the rest of the world, our city isn’t as beautiful during the autumn months. In other words, you can forget about the same amount of layers like the very stylish men from New York to Milan. However, this is the most opportune moment to gradually add layers, one item after the other, for the most stylish version of you. This transitional period is the perfect time to apply the fashionable choices of the season in another transitional phase of your everyday life: office hours to afterhours.

Back with a bang

One of the biggest trends of the season is the variety of corduroy from the runways to your closets. If you were to look for a reference, look no further than Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate. A corduroy suit would be ideal, but the corduroy trousers will have a greater effect when we’re swapping the office for a get together. This season is all about the tailored-fitted corduroy. The more it looks like it was made for your fine behind, the more sophisticated your outfit will look. Slim-fitted corduroys in shades of olive green or navy is going to last you the entire season and beyond. Not to worry, gentlemen, you’ll have the more relaxed and casual fitted corduroy for the weekends. A full-on suit is one thing, but our warmer climate won’t allow us to sport this for too long, unless you’re indoors the entire time. Swap out the corduroy jacket for the leather jacket you might have been sporting during the past spring. No need to be stuck-up or ‘boujee’ when it comes to incorporating past season items to this season’s aesthetics.

Camel ride-along

Nope, not the actual animal with a couple of humps; we’re talking about one of this season’s major colours. The camel colour used to be limited to only outerwear. This time around, aim to mix shades and patterns for an all-camel outfit. To make things clearer, a tailored camel (of a darker shade) suit is the perfect autumn suit for the office. However, since you are mixing shades and patterns, the ability to hop out of the formal stage and onto a more playful one won’t be as difficult. A roll-neck, lightweight sweater would be a better option over a dress shirt. Again, keep in mind, we aren’t strolling the streets of Europe. There are going to be a limit to layers before we swing into the winter months. In other words, sport the sweater instead of the suit jacket. And in this trend, there’s no need to worry about contrasting colours or pieces; just make sure the shades compliment each other instead.

Roll out

As already mentioned, roll-neck knitwear might make an appearance or two. It’s warm enough for the autumn season, which doesn’t require another layer on top of it. As we already know, men’s fashion, even items off the rack, fit much better than ever. Roll-neck sweaters are fitted enough to where it feels like it’s hugging you and not squeezing you. Many of you are squeamish with the idea that there is something wrapping around your neck, risking asphyxiation. Relax. If you’re capable of wearing a necktie with your suit, this shouldn’t be an issue. It’s a roll-neck after all. It doesn’t always mean you have to protect your neck the entire time, just roll it down. The biggest misconception with the roll-neck is the idea that it will put you through an uncomfortable period of unnecessary squeezing. The fabric itself allows the roll-neck to relax at the top, mimicking the feeling and look of a scarf wrapped around your neck. So while it may look incredibly fitted, you won’t have to worry about suffocating at work or at a gathering.

Into the woods

Moss green, alongside camel, will be a go-to shade of green when it comes to eveningwear. Unlike the camel, moss green holds a classier aesthetic; there is richness to this colour you won’t find in the other trendy shades of the season. Sure there are suits, but the more flattering items will be separate jackets and trousers. The trousers will have a similar effect seen in the corduroy department, and on the other end, it has the sophisticated touch of the fitted roll-neck. The best thing about moss green though is it actually suits pretty much every skin tone – so there is no need to fret over if a certain shade will look terrible on you or not.
