5 makeup trends that need to go in 2017
2016 had its share of over-the-top glittery eye makeup and pouty lips. However, it's time to part ways with five makeup trends that have been done to death last year, and embrace the new. CAKEY BASE It seems like all those beauty vloggers on YouTube and Facebook do is put one layer of foundation after another and top them off with three more layers of concealer and powder. It's time for all this layering to go and let your skin breathe. During the daytime, go with a sunscreen as the base and apply a light layer of foundation and powder on top. If you're going out after evening, a pea-sized amount of your favourite moisturiser, layered with some setting powder could really help bring out that natural glow. highlight253654+ HIGHLIGHTING AND CONCEALING We are not entirely going away from this trend just as yet, but we need to take a step back from those striking white zebra lines that sit underneath our eyes and on the bridge of our noses. The goal is to soften the under-eye patches and any pimple scar that stand out like a soar thumb, not draw a uber-shiny face. CONTOURING Long gone are the days of chiselled face and accentuated sharp jawline. Embrace your natural facial structure and tone it down a notch by drawing soft contouring strokes. Those harsh lines under the cheekbones and on the sides of the nose that make you look skeletal are appealing no one. NUDE LIPS We're all for going nude this year when it comes to lip colour, but those extremely nude pink, nude beige, and nude brown, that almost look like a highlighter on your lips need to die this year. We have to pay attention to what compliments our skin tone, instead of following a trend that's going viral worldwide. OVERDRAWN LIPS Kyle Jenner pouts had their moment in 2015 and 2016, but it's time for them to part ways with us. It may look sultry on its own, but when put in context, overdrawn lips look disproportionate to the rest of your features. If you have really thin lips, we recommend adding a touch of non-sticky lip gloss on top of your lip colour to make them look slightly fuller.
