Renowned singer Shahnaz Rahmatullah has died. She was 67.
She died at her Baridhara residence around 11:30pm on Saturday.
Lyricist and journalist Kabir Bakul said: “Shahnaz fell ill around 11pm [on Saturday night]. She died before she could have been shifted to a hospital.”
“Her husband was by her side when she died,” Bakul added.
A number of artists rushed to Shahnaz Rahmatullah’s residence at the news of her demise.
Shafiq Tuhin, lyricist, music director and singer, said Shahnaz Rahmatullah’s family has decided to put her to eternal rest at the army graveyard after Zuhr prayer on Sunday.
Shahnaz Rahmatullah was born on January 2, 1952. Her musical career kicked off as a radio artist and a playback singer in the movies when she was only 11.
Trained by ghazal legend Mehdi Hassan, she went on to chart an illustrious career during the span of over five decades in the industry.
The singer has also been honoured with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Ekushey Padak.
