Anwar Group Founder, Chairman Anwar Hossain passes away

Anwar Hossain, founder and chairman of Anwar Group of Industries, breathed his last at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday.

According to the company's announcements on several social media sites on Wednesday, the 83-year-old senior businessman has been suffering from dementia and old-age difficulties.

The late MP Hossain's namaz-e-janaza will be held at Baitul Aman Jam-e-mosque at Dhanmondi road 7 around 10:30 am on Thursday.

He was the founder chairman of Anwar Group of Industries, The City Bank Limited, Bangladesh Finance and Investment Company Ltd and founder director of City General Insurance Company Limited.

For a long period, Hossain, a well-known industrialist and wealthy businessman, served as chairman of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Foundation.

He also served as director of DCCI during the years 1976-78, 1982-83, 1984-85, and 1989-90.

He served as a trustee of Dhaka Improvement Trust (DIT), which is now RAJUK, from 1983 to 1987.

Moreover, He was involved in a number of socio-cultural groups.

President of the DCCI, Rizwan Rahman, offered his sympathies on Hossain's death.

In a statement, the DCCI president remarked: "We have lost a guardian and a tremendous iconic character in Bangladesh's economic sector."

He also said that Anwar Hossain was an idol to the second generation entrepreneurs of the country.

With his death, the entire business community and the Dhaka Chamber have lost a master in this field, said Rahman.

Hossain's outstanding contribution to the country's socioeconomic development will be recognized and appreciated in perpetuity, he added.

Rahman also prayed for the deceased soul's salvation and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
