Renowned educationist and economist Professor Khondokar Mustahidur Rahman, former Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU), died of Covid-19.
He breathed his last around 4.30pm on Friday while undergoing treatment at Islami Bank General Hospital in the capital.
Former JU registrar and General Secretary of JU Alumni Association Abu Bakr Siddique confirmed his death.
JU Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam expressed deep shock at the death of Prof Mustahidur Rahman.
The VC also prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Prof Mustahidur Rahman was elected Jahangirnagar University VC in 2004. He joined the university as a lecturer on January 12, 1971.
He completed his SSC from Dhaka College School in 1964 and HSC from the same college in 1966. As a student of economics, he started his university life at Dhaka University in 1966. He obtained MSC from Islamabad University in Economics in 1969.
