Our country has cause to rejoice at the occasion of Bangladeshi students beating all other participating South Asian countries at this year’s International Mathematical Olympiad held in Rio de Janeiro.
But this occasion is also instructive for the future.
It shows us that our youth have the potential to flourish and achieve amazing things. That we climbed 8 places from last year in the world ranking shows we can keep getting better.
If we encourage our youth to excel at something, they will. We’ve already seen how our youth have taken Bangladesh to a whole new level in the sports arena, in cricket.
So, let’s encourage them to excel not only in math and science but also in the arts, in the humanities, and in being honest, responsible citizens.
