The strength of a nation’s passport will become increasingly important as more of our people make their way across the world

Bangladesh’s improved ranking in the Henley Passport Index is good news for all of us.

The new position, which is based on how many countries one can visit visa-free using one’s respective passport, serves to highlight the recent success of our foreign policy.

In an increasingly globalized world, the government has been right to maintain and nurture the relationships we share with our neighbours and partners, with whom we can share ideas, trade, and make deals which benefits all parties involved.

Our economy has played a significant role in Bangladesh’s rise to prominence on the world stage, and a robust and healthy foreign policy will go a long way towards supporting the upward trajectory of our national progress.

But that does not mean that there is no room for improvement -- our people still struggle to find access to certain parts of the world and, internally, bureaucratic red tape has made even the very process of acquiring a passport wearisome.

At the end of the day, what is more important is providing the best possible service to the citizens of this country by making things such as trade and travel easier and hassle-free.

The strength of a nation’s passport will become increasingly important as more and more of our people, services, and products make their way across the world, providing more freedom and security.

It is encouraging to see Bangladesh making its way up the ladder in this regard.
